Whitepaper

A report or guide made to understand an issue or help decision making. Satoshi Nakamoto released the whitepaper on Bitcoin, titled “Bitcoin: A Peer-to-Peer Electronic Cash System” in late 2008.

While many believe that white papers are technical documents, in reality they are marketing tools, meant to persuade investors to learn more about and eventually offer capital to the project described by the white paper. The white paper tries to convince potential investors or customers that a particular solution is superior for solving a specific problem.

As a marketing tool, white papers differ from brochures in that they abstain from flashy and bold statements and instead try to use persuasive factual information to convince. They are typically longer in length and are presented in a more academic tone.
